Children's CEO, CNEO to host chat over coffee​

Dr. Guy Giesecke, Children's of Mississippi chief executive officer, and Ellen Hansen, Children's of Mississippi chief nursing executive officer, will host a “Coffee Talk” presentation from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Perioperative Conference Room.

Arkansas faculty to talk epithelial cell pyroptosis mechanisms​

Dr. Julia Liu, associate professor of gastroenterology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, will give the UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute Grand Rounds presentation, “Epithelial Cell Pyroptosis: Basic Mechanisms with Clinical Translations,” at noon on Thursday, Sept. 26, in the Guyton Library on the first floor of the Guyton Research Center.

 MEW journal club to discuss school-based health growth

Dr. Lisa Haynie, professor of nursing and director of the Mercy Delta Express Project, will serve as the discussion leader for the next Health Disparities Journal Club meeting, “School-based Health Growth and Expansion," from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, in conference room D on the second floor of the student union.

Vice chancellor to speak at fall faculty meeting​

Dr. LouAnn Woodward, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs, is scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting set for noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Woodward will provide an update for the Medical Center and faculty with 20 years of service will be recognized. Flu shots will be available before and after the meeting from Student and Employee Health. Lunch will be available on a first-come basis.

Women at Risk founder to discuss health care's role in trafficking

​Rebecca McDonald, founder and president of Women at Risk International, will give the Division of Continuing Health Professional Education and School of Medicine Community Service Team presentation, "Health Care's Role in Sex Trafficking," from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the student union.

Collegiate scholars set to heat up RICE competition

Selected graduate students from diverse backgrounds in a range of academic disciplines will participate in the annual Rural Interdisciplinary Case Experience (RICE) Bowl, an interactive competition to provide the best solution for a realistic scenario about complex rural health issues from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in lecture hall 124 in the medical education building.

Sponsored by the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities, the event will include participants from Jackson State University, Mississippi College, Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and UMMC. A reception will follow the competition.
